THE HABSBURG CENTURY
This volume retravels a fundamental historical period, widely illustrated by photography ever since its first experimental applications, presenting - through the lense of the great masters of photography of the time - the political, cultural, artistic, social, religious, and economic climate that distinguished the Habsburg Empire as one of the major powers on the political chessboard of Europe during the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. A ?supranational? empire, heir to the Holy Roman Empire, that assembled more than twenty populations of differing ethnic backgrounds, who spoke ten different languages (3 illiterate ones), and professed seven religions, all united in the figure of the Emperor.
