FLORENCE: PUBBLIC LIGHTS AND URBAN AMBIENCE
Two centuries of a public service all-important for the life of a city are examined here with the aid of precious documents and the determinative support of photography. Lighting seen not only as a technical fact, but considered as an essential moment of the way that the city introduces itself and is. A new photographic campaign documents the return of the 19th-century lantern on the streets of the city centre and of the cast-iron candelabra on the parapets of the Arno, the spotlights of Via Tornabuoni, with the Ponte Vecchio, and the Giardino dei Semplici. Detailed historic texts and a technical chronology complete the volume.
