A photographic album that illustrates aspects of social life in Florence between the 19th and 20th centuries: popular entertainment, religious and civil manifestations, exhibitions, sport, with the most famous squares serving them as a frame. The city?’s gardens and the waters of the Arno. What emerges is the image of the city straddling two centuries, a mirror of the social and economic transformations of the period when, next to the traditional celebrations linked to its history and culture, the modern past-times of the rising middle-class society emerged. The trip in a tram, the photographic exhibition, fencing, tennis, canoeing, going up in a balloon, the bicycle?…represent and exalt the new myth of technology and movement that originated precisely during that epoch.
