PHOTOGRAPHERS IN SIENA IN THE 800's
A privileged destination ever since the 18th century for artistic travel in Italy, it was nevertheless only during the second half of the 19th century that Siena was once again ?discovered? for its medieval character, defined in the guide books of the time as ?one the most important cities for the study of 13th- and 14th-century art, after Rome, Florence and Venice?. Photography contributed to this rediscovery, that is, the many dark-room experts who with their work were the first interpreters of new cultural and artistic instances linked to the 19th-century process of re-appropriating historical roots.
