THE EYE AND THE HISTORY
The Alinari Archives have a very large quantity of photographs reproducing the Tuscan Maremma. This is a prevalently agricultural zone that had a deep impact on the history and life of the settlements: at the beginning, the Maremma was only an inhospitable swampy zone; however, at the beginning of the 19th century, a huge reclamation effort transformed this then unhealthy region into a rich agricultural and zootechnical zone. The photographs in this book document this history, with a collection of rare pictures that are being published for the first time.
