ROME AND LAZIO IN THE ALINARI ARCHIVES
Chosen by the film director Luigi Magni and the historian Wladimiro Settimelli, the photographs realised by the Alinari, Brogi, and Anderson families show monuments, costumes, personages and stories of Rome and surroundings from 1870 to about 1920. The papal city appears with its ?‘distinct?’ monuments, its squares uninhabited or animated by the slow pace of the daily life of other times. A romantic and placid atmosphere transpires from these pictures, arousing nostalgic ?‘memories?’ and, at the same time, precious documents of the progress of history.
