PALERMO IN THE 800's
Ever since the birth of photography, the Sicilian capital has been the theatre of important photographic campaigns, part of which has been unknown up until now. In the volume are presented several important unpublished works, among which is the oldest daguerreotype of the city, dated 1840. Since then, Palermo has hosted prestigious photographers who have documented its architectural beauty and its historical importance. From the barricades erected during the siege of the Garibaldi troops in 1860 to the pictures of the Grand Tour. Refined foreign photographers, such as Chauffourier and Eugène Sevaistre, moved to Palermo, donating to the city precious testimonies that are faithfully proposed once again here.
