HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON
Universally recognised as photographer of the century, Cartier-Bresson - both at the beginning of his career and at its peak - integrated photographic art by competing with drawing. But drawing was always present in the Maestro?’s work: it was a constant that crossed and enriched his life and career. In a quotation, he asserted: ?“For me, the photographic camera is a sketch pad, the instrument of intuition and spontaneity, the possessor of the instant which, in visual terms, interrogates and decides at the same time.?” Instead, drawing for him represented ?“a meditation, to meet Nature once more without technical means putting themselves between it and the eye.?”
