PHOTOGRAPHY AND BOTANY
The volume is dedicated to the study of botany between the 19th and 20th centuries through the collections of herbaria, wax models, and drawings, but above all photographs coming from various public and private Florentine collections. An in-depth analysis of the application of photography to botanical science: from artistic-type photos of the Alinari brothers, realised as still-lifes in the studio, to the shots taken in gardens with the natural environment, and to the actual naturalistic collections created by botanists like Beccari, with his specialisation in palm trees, and Roster, a scientist and technician, with his photomicrographies of parasites, plants and algae.
