In the fervour of works of scientific research, production and conservation, and exploitation of the archaeological heritage that positively characterises the present period of profound crisis is collocated this excursion into our century-old documentary activity that has established and transmitted to following generations many of the most salient episodes of archaeological research. The images collected in this volume enable us to compare the variations over the course of more than a century, in ways of reading the archaeological document, above all because in the photographic images it often restores a state of conservation of several monuments that the ravages of time and man?’s neglect have irremediably compromised.
