THE UFFIZI GALLERY
The Uffizi Gallery is the most famous picture gallery in Italy and one of the best known in the world. It offers a complete outline of the various schools of Florentince painting, represented by important works and real masterpieces. It also includes numerous collections of other Italian schools and a good number of Flemish paintigs, as well as the famous collection of self-portraits. Another interesting collection is the one of the antique statues and tapestries. In addition to the Gallery, on the second floor, the building hourses the State Archives which contain rare documents of the city history. This great museum became a public patrimony in 1737, when Ana Maria Ludovica de' Medici, the last of this perstigious family, donated it.
