PALAZZO VECCHIO
The Palazzo Vecchio houses, as well as art collection, the offices of the town and county council and ever since the earliest times it has been the seat of the city's government. The original 14th-century nucleus has a powerful tower and rough stone face, while another section of the building, restored in the 15th century, has wonderful carved ceilings decorated with gold. Also to be seen are the "Ducal Apartments" which became the main part of the building after modernizations commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici starting from 1540.
