MUSEUM OF THE BARGELLO
The Bargello is housed in the restored, neo-medieval Palazzo Pretorio. The building was built in 1250 for the "Captain of the People" by the German Lapo. It was built at the same time as Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella. In the history of 19th-century museography and collectionism, the Bargello played a leading role at the European level. The Bargello contains collections of ancient ivories, 16th-century sculptures, majolica, armor, bronzes, medieval sculptures, medals, cameos, fibulas, jugs and many other exquisitely crafted objects of real artistic value.
