DOMENICO GHIRLANDAIO
Domenico Bigordi (Ghirlandaio) was born in Florence. His father was a goldsmith and he had four younger brothers. Two of these were also painters and his assistants as well as his brother in law Bastiano Mainardi of S. Gimignano. Ghirlandaio lived and worked almost exclusively in his home town but he also painted "Stories of Santa Fina" in the "Collegiata" of San Gimignano and in 1481 and 1482, in the Vatican Library in Rome he painted the two stories of Christ in the Sistine Chapel.
