MILES DAVIS
This 3-CD set covers only six months of recording activity for Miles Davis, a period of rapid change and growth. It chronicles the quantum leap from the dissolution of the Shorter-Hancock-Carter-Williams quintet to the startling sound of the Bitches Brew era. The set introduces Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette and John McLaughlin, to his musical sphere. They would all exert an influence on Miles. It also introduces the multiple keyboard configuration in his music. Only two tunes by his new quintet, used to complete Filles De Kilimanjaro and the masterpiece In A Silent Way were issued contemporaneously. Other material including the studio version of "Directions," was released in the late seventies on various albums compiled from the vaults. This set brings to light three more previously unissued performances and presents the In A Silent Way session in its pure state as the musicians performed it, as well as in its post-produced and edited album form.
