Behind the severe and massive palace are the enchanting Boboli Gardens which rise up on the hill behind, populated with fountains, statues, shady walks and hundreds of birds and squirrels. The palace itself houses extensive royal apartments, and seven art galleries, which contain works of Titian, Tintoretto, Rosso Fiorentino, Van Dyke, Lippi and many others.
